Abstinence and Personal Responsibility Education Programs
Section 2953 of the PPACA provides $55.25 million in grants to allow states to fund education for youth on both abstinence and contraception for the prevention of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections. The individual state grants will be at least $250,000 annually and states will be awarded funding for a five-year period.
Arkansas Implementation
The Arkansas Department of Health applied for $485,372 in grant funding for the Personal Responsibility Education Program and $619,862 for the Title V State Abstinence Program Grant. In Sept. 2010, the state was awarded funding for both grant programs.
