The Director of the Bureau of Legislative Research oversees services to the Arkansas General Assembly that include drafting of bills; legal, fiscal, and general research; staff assistance for legislative committees and task forces; and computer and technology support. These services are provided though the following Bureau offices and divisions: Administrative Services Office, Fiscal Services Division, Information Technology Division, Legal Services Division, and Research Services Division.

The Director serves as Executive Secretary of the Arkansas Legislative Council. The Council is the legislative committee responsible for coordinating the activities of the various interim committees and provides, through the various committees, legislative oversight of the executive branch of government.

The Director also serves as Secretary of the Joint Interim Committee on Legislative Facilities. The Committee is responsible for assigning certain legislative space within the Capitol and for oversight of repairs, improvements, and furnishing in committee rooms.

The Director or the Director's designee serves as a member of the Arkansas Code Revision Commission, the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship Advisory Council, and the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL).

Arkansas Code Revision Commission. The Arkansas Code Revision Commission is responsible for arranging the publication of the Arkansas statutes including compilations, recompilations, revisions, codifications or recodifications of, or cumulative or noncumulative supplements to the statutes.

Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship Advisory Council. The Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship Advisory Council provides recommendations to the Department of Higher Education and the Arkansas Lottery Commission Legislative Oversight Committee concerning the implementation of the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship Program — Part 2.

National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws (NCCUSL). The National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws is a non-profit unincorporated association comprised of state commissions on uniform laws from each state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The NCCUSL commissioners study and review the law of the states to determine areas of law that should be uniform from state to state and to promote uniformity among the state laws. Where appropriate, the NCCUSL commissioners draft and propose to the states uniform or model acts.
